Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Welcome to another busy term at Preston Girls Secondary College.  I hope you had an enjoyable Easter break and were able to spend some quality time with your family.

The term has started with a flourish.  I am pleased to advise you that the administration area of the College has been completely redesigned to make it a more accessible and welcoming area.  As the first point of contact with the College, it is important that we have a professional appearance and approach, and our new entrance has certainly given us a great start.  Staff and students have been very positive about the changes and I encourage you to come in and see for yourself! Thanks to Mrs Elizabeth Lukovska for her work in overseeing this large and important project.

On Monday we had a staff professional learning day. We spent a great deal of valuable time working on our improvement agenda across the following areas - Student Behaviour Management (with Dr Joel Roache from La Trobe University); developing college teaching protocols and learning protocols (we will be consulting with students around these later in the term) and implementation of the Northern Metropolitan Region’s “Curiosity & Powerful Learning” initiatives. We had a productive day and I congratulate the staff on their professional approach.

Students returned ready for school yesterday, and were very pleased with the new look of the College.  I congratulate those students who came to school on time and ready for work, dressed in full uniform.  This is the expectation of the college.  Unfortunately, we had a number of students who did not meet this  expectation, and it is important that we have your support as parents and guardians. Please make sure your child has all the correct items of the uniform – should you need assistance, don’t hesitate to call us and we will help where we are able.  This term the college head scarf is required for students who choose to wear one for religious purposes.  It can be purchased from the office.  In consideration of the cold mornings, we have decided to bring forward the transition into the winter uniform.  Please note the following dates:

May 1st : Students may commence wearing winter uniform.  Summer uniform is still accepted

May 21st All students to be in full winter uniform.

Until May 1st, all students are required to wear summer uniform.

With regard to arriving on time, I remind everyone that classes commence at 8.50 a.m. and students should arrive by 8.40 a.m. to allow time to get their books and equipment ready for the day. Thank you, as always, for your support.
