Article 6: Schools have taste for Business

The NBAA invites four students and one teacher from each of two schools to attend breakfast as guests of the NBAA. This provides students with an opportunity to experience business networking and hear presentations from the Award Nominees and a variety of guest speakers.

Cheryl Judd, Principal of Preston Girls Secondary College praised the NBAA initiative to involve school students, and spoke highly of the students recent experience at the breakfast awards.
Preston Girls School prides itself on learning in the real context, so that there is emphasis on vocational education. The NBAA gave the students an opportunity to see what they may be interested in, as well as contact with local industry, local employers and local issues.
Business Management students were chosen to attend to give them a perspective of ‘real’ business outside of classroom textbooks, as well as a chance to have a sense of the types of things that business people discuss.
Cheryl commented “It was good for the girls to get a sense of what the community has to offer and the networks between the business community.”

Cheryl Judd is a strong supporter of business and community links, as an active member of the local Preston Business Group, and is supportive of initiatives and programs that nurture networks between community, business and schools.

PGSC Hosts delegation of Chinese Educators

The Chineses Delegation that visited Preston Girls

On Wednesday 4th  February 2009, accepted an invitation from  Melbourne University to host a delegation of Chinese educators visiting Victoria to learn about the Victorian education system and improve their English language skills. The delegation included primary and secondary school teachers as well as education officials from the Chinese equivalent of the regional office.

The group were keen to learn about education in Australia and to observe the very vibrant and harmonious  multicultural nature of  the College. Members of the group were particularly interested in the many vocational programs and opportunities available to the girls alongside the VCE program. They were impressed by the information provided regarding the outcomes for students completing VCE – with 100% of the 2007 year 12 class successfully completing their VCE or VCAL qualification and  over 80%  of the VCE students moving to higher education or training in 2008

During the visit the group met with the Principal Mrs Cheryl Judd, the Pathways coordinator Ms Vicki Bawden. During  a tour of the college facilities and visits  to classes the group members were keen to speak with the students about their studies and views of the  school.

Visits such as this provide a wonderful opportunity for the college to reflect on our core purpose of providing  girls with the  necessary skills and knowledge to move to  successfully complete their schooling  and progress to further studies and successful careers.

Cheryl Judd
