Yr11 Student Wins Swannie Award for Debating
Sumayya A has won the Swannie Award from the Debating Association of Victoria. Congratulations on becoming the top Yr 11 debater in the Coburg region for 2009. Sumayya, we are all proud of your performance!
Sir Rod Eddington Visits Preston Girls’ Transport Forum
Thursday 10 September saw the conduct of our Transport Forum chaired by The College Environment Captain Ahliah with special guest Sir Rod Eddington author of the Victorian Government East West Transport Strategy Plan. Guests attending the forum included Council president Julia Tilley, Jason McLeod and Matt Wilson from JP Morgan, Krys Hendrickson ARD Northern Metropolitan Region and Che Sutherland Sustainable Transport Officer, Darebin Council.
The audience and contributors to the forum were the Year 10 Living in the City class and the SRC members. Sir Rod spoke about his report and its findings. Two groups of girls from the Living in the City class then made a presentation on various travel modes and issues especially in and around the Northern suburbs. The forum then opened to a Q&A session with Sir Rod responding to questions and issues identified by the students with respect to transport in the Melbourne & metropolitan area. At the conclusion of the forum Sir Rod congratulated the students and Mr Pattichis their teacher on the work and preparation which they had done and their well informed knowledge of the issues.
